The Birth of DIYtinerary: How a Goa Trip Turned Into a Global Travel Movement
Share
Travel is all about freedom, adventure, and the joy of exploring new places. But for many, it can also feel overwhelming. Where do you stay? What should you do? Where can you find great places to eat? These are just a few of the questions that travelers often ask themselves, and for good reason.
DIYtinerary was born out of a demand to make travel planning simpler, more personalized, and filled with actionable details—no generic tour packages required. But the story of how it all started is just as exciting as the service we offer today.
A Viral Reel and a Flood of DMs
In February 2021, Amrit was enjoying a two-month trip to Goa. While there, she found a charming one-bedroom apartment with a pool for just ₹1500 a night. It was a great deal, and she couldn't resist sharing her experience with her Instagram followers.
Amrit posted a reel about the apartment, showcasing the beautiful poolside, the cozy interiors, and the unbeatable price. But what happened next was something they hadn’t anticipated. The reel went viral. Within hours, Amrit’s DMs were flooded with questions from curious travelers eager to know more. People wanted to know:
- Where did you stay?
- What did you do?
- Where did you eat?
These were the three questions that dominated the conversation for days.
Simi’s Idea: Turning DMs Into a Solution
Amrit’s sister, Simi, who had been helping answer all the messages, spent seven days straight responding to DMs and sharing recommendations for stays, sightseeing, and food. It was clear that there was a huge demand for detailed travel tips, but responding to each message individually wasn’t sustainable.
One evening, after hours of answering DMs, Simi turned to Amrit and said, “What if we create a simple PDF guide with all the information people are asking for? Something they can use to plan their trip with ease.”
And that’s exactly what they did.
The First Step: A Simple PDF Guide
They created a PDF that included:
- 3 amazing stay options with booking links
- 5 must-try restaurants with Google Maps links
- 5 top things to do with Google Maps links
They decided to give this guide away for free, asking people to share their email addresses in exchange. The response was overwhelming. In just 3 weeks, over 2000 people downloaded the guide.
Taking It a Step Further: The 4-Day Goa Itinerary
Seeing the demand for more detailed information, Amrit and Simi decided to take their idea a step further. They created a comprehensive 4-day Goa itinerary—a day-by-day guide filled with:
- Stays
- Restaurants
- Sightseeing activities
- Prices
- Directions
They packed it all into an easy-to-follow plan with Google Map links, recommendations, and more. The best part? It was personalized and designed to help travelers plan their trip without the need for an expensive package tour.
In just 3 weeks, they sold 60 itineraries. And that’s when DIYtinerary was born.
DIYtinerary’s Growth: Helping 5600+ Customers in 3.5 Years
